BDIH

BDIH is the Federation of German Industries and Trading Firms for pharmaceuticals, nutritional goods, dietary supplements and personal hygiene products, based in Mannheim, Germany. Known as one of the most stringent bodies in terms of defining specifications related to natural cosmetics, BDIH operates on the basis of a list of 690 authorized ingredients and calls on the services of an independent institute, Ecocontrol, to test the contents and production methods of the products that they certify.

From harvesting the starting materials to the finished product itself, the BDIH is concerned with limiting the ecological footprint of companies that they certify as much as possible.

We are proud that the entire range of BUTA’I products carry the BDIH seal, certifying our strict compliance to the BDIH guidelines listed below:

  • Plant-based starting materials must originate from organic farming methods or controlled organic harvesting in the wild state.
  • Starting materials must be renewable and biodegradable, on account of their lesser ecological impact. This is particularly true when they originate from certified organic channels or other channels using natural resources with limited intervention.
  • Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are prohibited.
  • The following are prohibited: artificial colorants, synthetic fragrances, ethoxylated washing bases or emulsifiers such as sodium laureth sulfate or products originating from petrochemicals. Only certain “gentle” preservatives, identical to nature, are authorized.
  • The use of starting materials originating from dead vertebrate animals is prohibited.
  • No animal testing is performed.
  • No harmful ingredients are authorized throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Only essential emulsifiers and surfactants originating from soft chemistry are authorized.
  • All ionization treatment, on starting materials or the finished product is prohibited.
  • The packaging must be limited and non-polluting.
